Ned Wright

I came across these wine bottles via TheDieline.com

Now that I've been doing this for a while, I'm coming across more and more type that's somewhere between hand-drawn and not-hand-drawn. This is sort of like embellished typography. Afterall, even typefaces are hand-drawn at some point.

Ned Wright has a beautiful portfolio
full of typography.

Starbucks Vivanno Campaign

OK, I admit that I spend money at Starbucks (they have soymilk, okay?) Anyhow, I also tend to like their different campaigns. Their latest advertising for the "vivanno" incorporates handwritten text. I think the in-store stuff is nicer than the things I was able to find on the interweb.

Olympics Beijing 2008

How can ignore mentioning the Beijing 2008 logo… it is hand drawn after all. I'm not sure what to think of it, I guess I'll have to see how the whole system works out while I watch endless hours of TV coverage. I found the conceptual reasoning behind the symbol, all I can think is that this project must've been both a graphic designer's dream and nightmare.

I also found these secondary marks, which, if I imagine them without the type I think are rather beautiful. There's a lot more to the graphic system… which includes some cartoon mascots. ha.

Lance Wyman: Olympics Mexico '68

In ode to the Olympics starting this week, I thought I'd take a look at some type work done for past olympic games. It's one of the few events that happen that really put good graphic design work in front of everyday people. There's something I love about Lance Wyman's '68 Mexico logo mark. I think because it's so crazy and they just went with it.
