You can do it! It just takes time and practice. I had some basic knowledge, but just a few months back decided to commit myself to really learning. My mom bought me maran's illustrated knitting & crocheting: http://www.amazon.com/Illustrated-Knitting-Crocheting-maranGraphics-Development/dp/1592008623/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1264686379&sr=1-2 which explains everything with pictures. I highly recommend that book for getting started. It'll keep you from pulling your hair out!
